The M3 Vineyard at Woodside is named after the vineyard owners, Michael and Martin along with Michael‘s brother Matthew. It was planted in 1995. Soils here are sandy loam over red/yellow clay with underlying shale.
The vines are planted at a high density of 2,780 vines per hectare and are hand pruned with vertical shoot positioned canopies. The vineyard is a multiclonal blend of I10V1, Bernard 95 and Bernard 76 from Burgundy. Low yields, no more than 2.5kg/vine, are achieved by aggressive pruning and pre-harvest bunch thinning.
